ADOMS’ Director Addresses The 32nd Session Of The International Maritime Organization’s Assembly

Tuesday December 7th, 2021 – On the morning of December 7th, 2021, Ambassador Dwight C. R. Gardiner, Director/Registrar General of the Department of Marine Services and Merchant Shipping (ADOMS), the Maritime Administration of Antigua and Barbuda, in his capacity as  Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), addressed the 32nd session of the IMO Assembly.

The IMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for the development of measures to improve maritime safety and security in international shipping and prevent pollution from ships.  The Assembly is the IMO’s highest governing body and is responsible for approving the work programme and budget, as well as electing the IMO Council.

The Council is the executive organ of the IMO and is responsible for, under the Assembly, supervising the work of the Organization.  The Council is made up of 40 Member States elected by the Assembly for 2-year terms.  The Assembly meets every two years and consists of all 174 Member States.  A copy of his recorded speech can be seen in the above link.
